Music Report 10/25/07

Orchestral indie singer, songwriter and performer Sufjan Stevens is presenting BQE as part of the Next Wave Music Festival November 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. BQE is a symphonic and cinematic exploration of one of New York's least celebrated monuments: the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway including 38 musicians and one 16mm film.

Visiting the wonderful Bowery Ballroom from the San Francisco Bay Area next Friday, November 2nd, is Lyrics Born. Born Tom Shimura, he is a half-Japanese-American, half-Italian American MC with a large vocabulary, deployed via regular use of complex rhyming technique, such as phonemes and internal rhyme. His song "Callin' Out" was featured in a 2004 Diet Coke commercial featuring Adrien Brody, a Motorola commercial, and in the video game MLB 2006. The song was also #1 on San Francisco's LIVE105 local radio station for 5 weeks.

As a sidenote, opening for Lyrics Born is French singer Rue Melo, who I could definitely see Gregg Wasiak making a backstage pass at.
