In case you were wondering, the group contributing the song “1, 2, 3, 4”to the latest iPod Nano commercial is Feist, led by singer Leslie Feist, and they are from Canada. They don’t have any planned NYC dates as of press time.

Orishas, my favorite hip hop group consisting entirely of Cuban emigrants, will be in rocking the Big Apple October 8th at the Times Square Nokia Theater. The name "Orishas" refers to the omnipotent entity of the monotheistic religion known as Yoruba.

Residing in the South, I would be remiss if I didn’t mix in a good old fashioned soul music recommendation. A new album released by German label Trikont entitled Motel Lovers: Southern Soul from the Chitlin Circuit provides as authentic a flavor a big plate of soul food.

Check out the NPR story about it:

British group The Go! Team is all the rage right now and they’re playing two NYC shows at the Bowery Ballroom Oct 27 and Brookyln’s Studio B Oct 28. They’ve got the whole retro 80’s thing going on. And the sound might, and that’s big might, be described as Sonic Youth-guitars, Double Dutch chants, and Car Chase horns. If you go, beware of hipsters.

For more on the latest in hip tunes, check out the webcast of Seattle’s KEXP 90.3. Coincidentally, KEXP is an artistic patron of The Concept Farm’s very own Bryan Sears.
